Ottawa, December 3rd, 2007 - Edgewater Computer Systems, Inc., provider of advanced computer and communications technology products and embedded computing applications, announces the availability of an easy, out-of-the-box evaluation kit (EVK) for its Extended 1553™ (E1553™) technology. The EVK provides systems integrators with a comprehensive set of resources, including all necessary hardware and software, to validate the benefits of expanded MIL-STD-1553 capability.

Equipped with lap tops, Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) and a data bus, the EVK operates on existing 1553 systems and provides options for variable bandwidth configurations enabling users to configure Extended 1553 to their system bandwidth requirements.

The EVK provides the user the means to evaluate E1553 quickly by “overlaying” E1553 over existing standard 1553 cables, stubs and terminators. It is comprised of two units – each equipped with a representative Edgewater Xi Channel™ E1553 Interface Card and single board computer (acting as the host processor) both mounted in a chassis.

Designed to be evaluated in a software integration laboratory, the hardware components of the E1553 EVK are conduction cooled and ruggedized and therefore may be suitable for entry into an integration phase for later deployment in an operational environment.

Edgewater provides full technical support for the EVK, as required, to support set-up, configuration, and technical inquiries so that customers have an opportunity to evaluate deployment scenarios; measure E1553 characterization on customer platforms and develop integration roadmaps for upcoming or future platform programs.
